x-Heights Comparison (page 2)

The following type samples show type faces representing a larger x-height, Bookman, and a smaller x-height, Caslon, and compare each to the average x-height of Times Roman. In both cases, the middle row is the “best” choice, i.e., the most readable when set to an 18—point measure. The other rows show visual comparisons of type size and leading choices that would not be considered to be as easily read at this measure.
